On Monday, many of us woke up to the tragic news of the shooting in Las Vegas. While on my morning commute to school at 7am, I listened to the news while the reporter announced the increasing numbers of those dead or injured. In that moment I knew I had to do something. I knew that I had to do my part to show the impact this heinous crime has on not only the friends and family of the victims, but on the nation as a whole. I wanted to create something that shifted from the current political focus, to spotlight what truly matters: the countless lives forever changed after this attack on humanity.
Monday morning I grabbed my camera and microphone to interview various students throughout USF campus to highlight the tragedy of over 50 lives lost and at least 500 injured. Through this, I hope to encourage others to remember the lives lost and emphasize how every single person in America is affected.
Each person lost to the act of hatred from a single man, have people who love them and have ambitions for the future just like each of us. May we recognize this and remember the lives lost moving forward, while praying for the overwhelming amount of these acts of hatred to end.
My sincerest thanks to Guy Fisher and Jaily Hernandez for helping bring this video to life. Also, I'm so grateful to work at the USF Oracle, allowing me to create something like this and release it on their platform.
