"Pay attention to the things you are naturally drawn to. They are often connected to your path, passion and purpose in life. Have the courage to follow them." - Ruben Chavez
Learning about stories like Sarah's and having the honor of capturing them is what sustains me as a photographer. I've always been drawn to stories of passion and what drives people in their life.
For Sarah, dancing is a way to express her emotions and embrace who she is in a beautiful way. However, while growing in her passion for dance, Sarah often faced a difficult obstacle to overcome, dancing with her hearing implants.
"When I first started, it was really hard to hear the music and it was really challenging for me to keep up with the rest of the girls. I learned to apply corrections, dance with the music and listen harder than I ever could. One thing that was really hard for me was dancing with my implants. When I would perform, I would feel embarrassed to show who I was. But once I started dancing with Gaynor Minden, I was really confident and was able to express myself across the stage. I thought that no one could stop me and I could be who I was." - Sarah
Recently, Sarah pursued the opportunity to share her story and passion for dance when applying to become an ambassador for Gaynor Minden, a renown pointe shoe company located in New York City.
It was such an incredible experience learning about Sarah's story and helping capture it. Stories like hers, need to be told to inspire others to relentlessly pursue their passion no matter what obstacle comes their way.
